Organizations concerned with combating gender-based violence worldwide have released an alarming amount of reports showing the increasing incidence of gender-based violence against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the media coverage of the basic relationships between public health crises and violence against women and girls is still sporadic and very little, especially in the Arab States region. To highlight these important issues, UNFPA will mark the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict by hosting an online forum for marketing from across the Arab region (and the rest of the world).The interactive event aims to provide in the region with an in-depth look at these important issues and facilitate dialogue for more professional and survivor-focused coverage.

The objective of this virtual regional media forum is to highlight the links between health crises and the preventive measures used in them, gender equality and gender-based violence. The event will also highlight the importance of covering these issues broadly, in a professional, responsible and ethical manner, which is referred to as the survivor-centred approach.
